O V E R two thousand years ago, the Greek philosopher Plato wrote that the direction in which education starts a person will determine his or her future. At CESI for Biblical Studies, that journey to the future is undertaken as a partnership between the student and the institute community.

The C.E. Stowers, Sr. for BIBLICAL STUDIES (CESI) is an Institution whose principal commitment and mission is through comprehensive opportunities to educate God’s people and build disciples for Christian service.

MISSION

CESI’s intent is to educate students who will communicate creatively and shape the unchurched’ views and who will author the spiritual culture of their times. CESI is an urban institution whose students reflect the economic, racial, cultural, and educational diversity of the spiritual community. CESI conducts education in close relationship to a vital urban spiritual reality and serves important civic purpose by active engagement in the life and culture of the spiritual community of Chicago.

CESI’s purpose is:

  • To administer spiritual education and practices of the Institute are free of any discrimination based on age, race, color, creed, sex, religion, handicap, disability, and nation or ethnic origin
  • To educate students for creative spiritual directions in diverse fields and to encourage awareness of their aesthetic relationship and the opportunity of spiritual choice among them.
  • To extend educational opportunity by admitting unreservedly a student population with creative ability in, or inclination to, the subjects of CESI for Biblical Studies’ Interest.
  • To provide an institute climate that offers students an opportunity to try themselves out, to explore, and to discover what they can and want to do in ministry.
  • To give educational emphasis to the work of a subject by providing a practical setting, professional facilities, and the example and guidance of an inventive faculty who have an abundance of experience in the subjects they teach.
  • To help students find out who they are and to discover their own spiritual gifts, respect their individuality, and improve their self-esteem and spiritual development.
